What is the Difference Between a Bagel and a Bialy?

The difference between a bagel and a bialy is a question that has lived on for hundreds of years, and since Western Bagel launched back in 1947 we have always focused on old school, traditional recipes while giving them our West Coast twist, and the bialy is a hidden treasure.

A bialy is different from a bagel in two distinct ways: For one it’s not boiled before being baked (a bialy goes directly into the oven) and instead of having a hole in the middle most bialy have an indent.

Western Bagel bakes both round and long/stick bialy daily that are available in our retail locations throughout Southern California and also available through our online store. And with summer barbecues ramping up and hot dogs being a classic, we see how the bialy can totally change the game.

Think about it this way: When everyone is expecting a bland, dense hot dog bun you hit them with a bialy sprinkled with onion flakes and poppy seeds that’s crisp on the outside but airy on the inside.

If you have a barbecue coming up, our bialy can be ordered online and shipped directly to your door. And if you have any questions we’re here to help!
